"Kick Like A Girl" Movie on HBO This Thursday!

If you follow our blog at all, you have heard about our great admiration for the documentary, Kick Like A Girl...well, GREAT news...it will make its premiere on HBO this Thursday, May 28 at 6 P.M. ET/PT. This is a MUST-SEE!

The documentary is about the Mighty Cheetahs, a girls' soccer team here in Salt Lake City. After going undefeated for 2 years in league play, they moved to a boys' league to get better competition. And what happened next is funny, heart-warming and educational all at the same time.

Jenny Mckenzie, the film maker, is a friend of the program and a big soccer fan. The film was shown in its early form at our Utah Women's Soccer Academy camps and was a huge favorite.

"Kick Like a Girl" Movie a Must-See for Soccer Fans

Let's see...a group of 8-year old girls are on a soccer team called the Mighty Cheetahs. They are dominating their league and even defeating teams that are older than they are. What do you do? Well, Jenny Mackenzie decided to enter them into a boys' league...great idea and one that was challenging for the players, for sure!

Want to know what happened next? Well, you are in luck. Jenny is also a film maker. She recorded the whole season and kept track of the events - on and off the field. The result is the new documentary movie, Kick Like a Girl. Jenny came to our UWSA camp last summer and showed previews of the film. And, now it is ready and being shown at film festivals and other openings all over the country. It's a great show...funny, smart and poignant.

There will be two showings in the Salt Lake City area in March:

The first is at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Foursite Film Festival at Ogden's Egyptian Theater, and the second at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Salt Lake City's Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School. Mackenzie, her creative team and some of the Cheetahs will be there.

For today's fun fact, defender Addie Hair tells us that posted signs or any use of public space in Argentina must be written in Spanish, the official language of that country. I think some of our players need to start practicing now!
